BIOGRAPHY
Mor Nicholovos Matti Abd Alahad
(Patriarchal Vicar of Spain)

 

 

Metropolitan Mor Nicholovos Matti Abd Alahad was born on 6th April 1970 at Malekieh, Hassake in Syria. He started the religious studies in the St. Ephrem Monastery and later graduated from there. In 1991 he became a Monk and in 1994 he was ordained Priest. A few years later His Holiness the Patriarch sent him to Greece to continue his theological studies at the University of Athens from where he graduated in 1997. On his return, he was appointed the Dean of St. Aphrem Monastery in Ma`arat Sayyidnaya, Damascus, Syria. In 1998 he was appointed counselor member of the Supreme Court of the Syrian Orthodox Church in Damascus. The very next year he was given the holy Cross. In October 2004 he was sent to Argentina as the Patriarchal administrator.

 

On April 17th 2005, His Holiness the Patriarch Mor Ignatius Zakka I Iwas ordained Rev. Matti Abd Alahad as Metropolitan by name NICHOLOVOS and was appointed as the Patriarchal Vicar for Argentina. His Eminence had accompanied the Patriarch during many of His Holiness' apostolic visits to Europe, India, Iraq, Turkey etc.  In 2015, His Holiness Patriarch Ignatius Aphrem-II appointed H.E. as the Patriarchal Vicar for Spain.
