BIOGRAPHY
Mor Selwanos Petros AL-nemeh
(Metropolitan of Homs & Hama)

 

Metropolitan Mor Selwanos Petros was born on 4th September 1968 in Saddad, Syria. Soon after his college education he joined the Syrian Orthodox theological Seminary at Damascus and graduated from there. He was later tonsured a Monk and in 1994 ordained as Priest.  From 1991 to '96 he studied theology in the Greek University at Athens.  For the next three years he was in the pastoral service of the Syrian Orthodox Patriarchal Vicariate in Brazil. 

On 12 December 1999, H.H. Patriarch Ignatius Zakka I Iwas ordained Rabban Elisha' Al-nemeh as Metropolitan by name SELWANOS PETROS at the Mother of God Cathedral (yoldat aloho D-zunoro) in Homs. He was appointed as the successor to aged Metropolitan Mor Malatius Barnaba of the Homs and Hama diocese in Syria.

The cathedral at Homs where Metropolitan Mor Selwanos Petros is stationed was the Patriarchal headquarters from 1933 to 1959.  It was from this ancient church, the Soonoro (Holy Girdle) of the Holy Virgin Mary was discovered by the late lamented Patriarch of Antioch Mor Ignatius Ephrem I in 1952.
